The ancient Hawaiian capital of the Kingdom and the royal retreat on Maui’s sunny northwest coast were once one. Today, West Maui is home to magnificent resorts, shopping, dining options, a variety of activities, and some of the world’s most stunning sunsets. The best way to see the West Maui Mountains is by helicopter tour. Some of the most incredible sights in West Maui can only be seen by helicopter like the “Wall of Tears”, a lush cliff face with dozens of waterfalls draped over it. The West Maui Mountains are older than Haleakala therefore they’re more worn, weathered and lush.
This helicopter tour of East Maui will take you to places that you would never be able to see from the ground. You’ll get an up-close look at the jungle and waterfalls of Hana, as well as the deep valleys and rugged coastline formed by centuries of lava flow. This is the best way to experience the rainforest microclimate of Hawaii, and it’s sure to be one of the highlights of your trip.
No matter when you visit Haleakala Crater, you’re sure to be awed by its size and beauty. And if you’re lucky enough to catch a sunrise or sunset from the crater’s rim, you’ll be treated to an unforgettable experience. Haleakala Crater is home to a diverse range of landscapes, from the moon-like cinder desert at its summit to the lush fields and forests that cover its slopes. The crater is also home to a variety of wildlife, including endangered species like the Hawaiian Nene Goose.

Your adventure begins as you take off from Kahului Airport in a state-of-the-art helicopter. From there, you'll fly over West Maui, home to some of the most stunning scenery on the island. Highlights include the "Wall of Tears" – a stretch of 17 waterfalls flowing into one another – and Maui's tallest waterfall, Honokohau Falls, with a 1,100 foot drop. You'll also fly over the resorts of Kaanapali and Kapalua and the historic whaling town of Lahaina.
As you make your way around the island, you'll soar above the Olowalu, Ukumehame, and Launiupoko valleys before heading to Haleakala National Park. Here, you'll get a bird's eye view of the massive Haleakala crater, a Moon-like landscape dotted with cinder cones and volcanic rock formations.
Continuing on, you'll fly over Kaupo Gap and Ko'olau Gap – two valleys formed by ancient lava flows – before arriving in Hana. This is one of the most remote and beautiful parts of Maui, and this tour will allow you to explore it in style. Highlights include the Seven Sacred Pools – a series of cascading waterfalls leading into natural pools – as well as the grave of famed aviator Charles Lindbergh.
As your tour comes to an end, you'll fly over the Hana Rainforest and the Ke'anae Peninsula before returning to Kahului Airport. This truly is the ultimate Maui helicopter tour, and an experience you'll never forget!
