Private Road To Hana & Bamboo Forest Trek
Hike Pipiwai Trail In Haleakala National Park
This is one of the most popular adventures on the road to Hana, hiking up Oheo Gulch on the Pipiwai Trail. You will see spectacular waterfalls, a dark bamboo forest, a huge banyan tree, beautiful rainforest plants, flowers and birds, as well as historic sites too.
This full day private adventure starts in Kahului and goes in the reverse route around Haleakala to the far side of the island. This is the preferred route as you get out to the park quickly with fewer stops but the road is something else! You will be glad someone else is driving as you go along the steep, one-lane, unpaved coastal road to get to the park from the backside of Maui. It will be an adventurous day!

Start your day in Kahului (or purchase an add-on to be picked up at your resort) that begins an all day adventure out to Hana. Take the “reverse” route and head upcountry and around the backside of the island first. Witness the impacts of terraforming and feel the full force of the trade winds as we wrap around to the rainforest side of the mountain.
We take a long stop to hike the 4-mile Pipiwai Trail (2-miles to a 400ʻ waterfall) for most of the morning and into the afternoon. You will see a banyan tree, historical sites, some of the tallest waterfalls on Maui, a bamboo forest and more.
After the hike, we continue around to Hana and take the “road from Hana” back to the starting point in Kahului taking numerous stops for banana bread, ice cream and fresh fruit.
This is a full day of adventure between 10-12 hours with a private guide and vehicle.

This day is about getting out to the trailhead in Kipahulu and hiking the Pipiwai. Itʻs location is about the furthest you can go on the island as itʻs located in one of the smallest villages, in one of the most remote sections in all of the islands. Enjoy a full day with a private hiking guide and explore the road to Hana on the way back to town.
